California is less of a destination and more of a collection of adventures waiting to happen. From iconic theme parks and sun-soaked beaches to vibrant cities, dramatic coastlines, towering redwoods, and mountain escapes, the Golden State has a way of offering something for just about everyone. Whether you’re chasing big-city energy, outdoor adventure, incredible food and drink, or a little well-deserved time by the pool, California makes it easy to find your own version of the perfect getaway.
Our California Adventure
California is one of those places we keep finding reasons to return to. We’ve experienced several different sides of the Golden State, from the magic of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure to laid-back beach days, big-city exploring, and some seriously good food and beer along the way.
Southern California has a special place on our travel map. We’ve visited Disneyland and Disney California Adventure multiple times, stayed at Disney resorts, and enjoyed the coastal setting of Newport Beach. We’ve also explored Hollywood and the famous Walk of Fame, wandered through Santa Monica, and spent time in Beverly Hills, where some memorable meals made their way onto our travel highlights.
Further south, we’ve explored San Diego and experienced the iconic Hotel del Coronado, taking in the city’s coastal atmosphere and laid-back personality.
Up north, San Francisco brought a completely different experience. We explored the city, took in its famous landmarks, and visited Alcatraz, adding a little history to our California adventures.
And then there’s the food and drink. From memorable restaurants to local breweries we’ve discovered along the way, California has given us plenty of reasons to explore one neighborhood, one city, and one pint at a time.
We’ve visited California more than once, and somehow there’s still so much left to discover. That’s probably why we keep coming back.
What You Could Experience in California

California is a state where you could spend one trip chasing theme park thrills, another exploring world-famous cities, and an entirely different vacation surrounded by mountains, vineyards, or the Pacific coastline. There’s no shortage of ways to experience the Golden State.
Experience the magic of the theme parks. Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is an obvious favorite for Disney fans, with Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure offering two very different experiences. For another kind of adrenaline rush, Universal Studios Hollywood combines movie magic with thrilling attractions and behind-the-scenes experiences. Whether you’re traveling with family or simply refuse to outgrow your love of theme parks, California delivers.
Explore the California coastline. Some of the state’s most memorable scenery can be found along the Pacific. Drive the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, explore the coastal communities of Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea, take in the dramatic cliffs and ocean views of Big Sur, or spend time in Santa Barbara. Beach towns such as Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and La Jolla offer their own mix of coastal charm, great dining, and opportunities to slow down.
Discover the great outdoors. California is home to nine national parks, each offering something different. Stand beneath the giant trees of Sequoia and Redwood National Parks, take in the waterfalls and granite landscapes of Yosemite, explore the desert scenery of Joshua Tree, or venture into the otherworldly landscapes of Death Valley. For travelers who prefer their adventures with a little fresh air and a lot of scenery, California has plenty of room to roam.
Sip your way through wine country. Napa Valley and Sonoma are well-known for their wineries, beautiful landscapes, and memorable dining experiences. Spend a few days tasting your way through wine country, enjoy a luxury resort stay, or explore smaller wine regions throughout the state. It’s an excellent excuse to slow down and savor the journey.
Find your city adventure. Los Angeles brings entertainment, shopping, restaurants, and iconic neighborhoods. San Francisco offers historic landmarks, distinctive neighborhoods, waterfront views, and plenty of culinary discoveries. San Diego combines beautiful beaches with Balboa Park, the famous San Diego Zoo, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Each city has a personality of its own, so choosing just one might be the hardest part.
Go beyond the expected. Head to Lake Tahoe for mountain scenery and year-round outdoor recreation, explore Palm Springs for mid-century style and poolside relaxation, or take a ferry out to Channel Islands National Park for kayaking, wildlife, and a more remote coastal experience. California has plenty of destinations that reward travelers willing to venture beyond the most familiar stops.
And don’t forget the food and drink. From acclaimed restaurants and fresh coastal seafood to craft breweries, wine tasting, and neighborhood favorites, California is a state worth exploring with your appetite.
Whether you’re planning a theme park getaway, a coastal road trip, a city escape, or an adventure through the great outdoors, California has a way of making one trip feel like several.
